BUSHWICK OPEN STUDIOS May 30-June 1, 2014 Bushwick Open Studios (BOS) is a three-day arts and culture festival, hosted annually by the volunteer organization Arts in Bushwick (AiB). Now in its eighth year, this celebration of our neighborhood's vibrant community and local art scene is free and open to the public. Norte Maar is a proud sponsor of BOS2014, New York's largest open studios event, encouraging hundreds of artists to open their doors and share their work. Additionally, visitors can enjoy a series of events, performances, and panels, coordinated by AiB. Participating artists, spaces, and events are listed in the official BOS directory online, on the iPhone app, and in the printed map book. Norte Maar's signature BOS event returns! Maps-N-Mimosas Sat, May 31, 11am-2pm Norte Maar 83 Wyckoff Ave, #1B Brooklyn This event has been the obvious tops for seven years running. Stop by Bushwick’s longest running apartment gallery, Norte Maar; have a morning mimosa with us; meet up with your art posse and grab your maps. While there, check out the great private collection featuring over 30 paintings, drawings, sculpture and installations by Bushwick/Ridgewood artists. Come say hi to Fern Dog! Norte Maar Suggests: From the Six Zones of BOS: Gymnastics, Vacancy, Communal Table, and Kings & Queens Bushwick Open Studios looks to be another huge year for arts in Bushwick! At press time there were 581 online registered events (down only slightly from last year’s 598 registered users) filling a weekend with art and performance. We worked over the very user-friendly Arts in Bushwick website and compiled Norte Maar’s 2014 list of not-to-miss events, exhibitions, and studios… or at least those that we’ll not miss!!!! Norte Maar's epic summer events: Arshile Gorky and a selection of contemporary drawings June 6-29, 2014 Opening reception: Fri, June 6, 7-10pm Outlet Fine Art 253 Wilson Avenue Brooklyn Presented in collaboration with Norte Maar, this special loan exhibition features a rare drawing by Arshile Gorky from 1946 and positions the work as a source of discussion alongside the work of over thirty contemporary artists including Gregory Amenoff, William Anastasi, Judy Dolnick, Hermine Ford, Margrit Lewczuk, Michael Prodanou, Joan Snyder, and Joan Witek. READ MORE => SOUNDEVENT presented in collaboration with Socrates Sculpture Park June 21, 5-10pm (weather permitting) Socrates Sculpture Park 32-01 Vernon Blvd @ Broadway Long Island City Socrates Sculpture Park collaborates with Norte Maar to present SOUNDEVENTan evening of site-specific sound performances coinciding with the summer solstice. For this event, which will encompass the entire park, noted sound artists will create unique sound platforms through traditional instrumentation, amplification of objects, juxtaposition of voices, and experimental electronic sound.
