Attributed to William Matthew Prior (1806-1873): Durfee brothers Portraits James Durfee, Jr. and Horatio Nelson Durfee were two of six children born to James Durfee (1803-1889) a New Bedford, Massachusetts blacksmith, and his first wife Mary Allen (1798-1842). On March 23, 1843, James Durfee, Sr. married Julia Vinal (1822-1855) and the couple had two daughters, Mary Walker Durfee, born January 31, 1847, and Ellen Wade Durfee, born April 16, 1849.
